Brooks Cooper joined our firm in June, 2014. He earned his B.S. in Secondary Education from Bradley University, Magna Cum Laude. He graduated from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College with a J.D. in December, 1993. He joined the Oregon State Bar in 1994.
He is also a member of the Washington State Bar and has handled matters before the US District Court for the District of Oregon, the US District Court for the Western District of Washington, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and other jurisdictions.
His practice focuses on complex business, probate and real property litigation as well as appellate advocacy. A partial list of opinions in appeals he has authored the briefs, argued the appeal or participated in the briefs includes: Waterwatch of Oregon v. Boeing, 963 P.2d 744, 155 Or.App. 381 (1998); Flaig v. Emert, A149671 (January 23, 2014); Newton v. Boldt, 86 P.3d 49, 192 Or. App. 386 (2004); and Helmig v. Farley Pizza & Associates, 180 P.3d 749, 218 Or. App. 622 (2008). He also serves as lead counsel or a member of the plaintiffs' steering committee on select consumer class action matters.
Mr. Cooper is a frequent lecturer on topics such as wrongful death litigation in Oregon, personal injury claims of minors and the use of guardians ad litem in civil litigation.
He has been a governor of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, member of the Chief Justice's E-filing tasking force, member of the Multnomah Bar Association's Judicial Screening Committee, member and chair of the Oregon Council on Court Procedures, member of the board of directors of Transition Projects and of the board of directors of Trillium Charter School.
When not resolving problems for clients of the firm, Mr. Cooper is the head meadmaker at Stung Fermented, a Portland based sparkling mead manufacturer.
